Ys is a very famous action RPG serie. You play Adol Christin, and experience many acts of friendship.
Friendship was the keyword in the making of Ys.
The game rythm is fast with very good puzzles and tricks, fantastic clashes with Boss enemies and excellent musics.
Musics from Ys I were composed by Koshiro Yuzo san.

The episodes from the serie have been licensed by various compagnies on different platforms (Famicom, Super Famicom, MasterSystem, Megadrive, PC Engine, Sega Saturn, X68000...)

Falcom made first Ys, Ys II and Ys III on the PC88 and transplanted themselves on MSX2. They transplanted also Ys III on X68000.

Ys IV The Dawn of Ys was made in cooperation with Hudson Soft on the PC Engine as the succes of YS I&II and Ys III on this platform was big and fans asked for a sequel.
There is also a version on Super Famicom titled "Mask of the Sun" (and not "The Dawn of Ys") made by Tonkin House. But this one wasn't good.

YsV was made on the Super Famicom.

Ys has been remaked by Falcom in 1998 (Ys Eternal) and Ys II in 2000 (Ys II Eternal) on PC.
These new versions include upgraded graphics and sound, improved game play, with some minor story changes.
Ys II in particular is astonishing !!

On the Ys Special Collection All About Falcom LD/VHS, there was a short anime of YsIV.
You can download it here in avi format.
